We aren’t sure who had a better Russian Christmas (January 7), our missionary group or the orphans they ministered to that evening. Our Russian Missions missionary teams had the privilege of sharing God’s Love in several orphanages.
It has been more than a two years since we received permission to regularly visit these needy children. Russian Missions has a special place in our hearts for these children because of their demeanor. Some are so quiet. Their actions remind us of what they have been through and how detached they have become in their silent suffering.
Others tug on our hearts, as they are so open, truly noisy and longing for an emotional response from an adult or more clearly any adult. In all cases, we look into their eyes and hearts and hope that God will heal their suffering and bring them to peace with Him.
As we carefully planned out each part of the holiday program and more painstakingly on each expenditure, we prayed that this night would be joyfully remembered by these innocents.
Early in the evening, they laughed and kept their attention on the lively puppets and their antics. Our Christmas carols and stories that helped create a wonderful setting to teach spiritual principles and Christian attributes.
Then, some of the more astute children caught a glimpse of our missionaries’ actions. In any case, our missionaries thought they had the gifts concealed but an air of anticipation soon swept the room. Muffled whispers soon became thunderous joyful squeals as each child received an individual bag of holiday treats and treasurers.
Thank you. Thank you, Thank you!
Russia is very cold in the winter (a climate very much like Canada) with temperatures plummeting from -10 to -40.
Orphanages have restricted funds so their heating is often inadequate. Now, because of your gifts these kids will have warm hands, heads and feet, thanks to your support of Russian Missions. In addition, each bag contained some special treats (candy).
Beyond the material gifts, the great blessing you have given these children is the thought that there are Christian strangers who care about them.
Christians who send their Christ-like unconditional love from across the world. Thank you from the orphans of Russia.
On behalf of our missionaries, staff, and volunteers, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for your sustained belief in us, and your continued support.
