The past more than five months threw our ministry and many of our church partners into a frantic race. God was certainly opening doors for the Gospel in the middle of the Ukrainian refugee crisis.
At the same time, another door was opening to our annual Summer of Hope camp ministry program that Russian Missions, and friends like you, help sponsor.
This summer may be the most important season of this year for tens of thousands of young souls across the former Soviet Union. This is why I’m asking for your help to reach them.
We are working on our Summer of Hope Bible Camps across the nations of the former Soviet Union.
And due to the war in Ukraine, we also hope to hold camps for refugee children in Western part of Ukraine, Moldova and Poland.
This is a very challenging time for Ukrainian children, who have been going through so much stress from the war.
They have been in such despair because of the war – why not share the Love of God with them and bring some fun into their lives instead?
The isolation of COVID-19 compounded by economic misery — as well as war — has already battered the lives of children. The poverty and stress are hard to describe. This is one of the greatest open doors for Christ and His Gospel we’ve ever seen!
Through our Summer of Hope Bible Camps, Russian Missions-sponsored churches see MORE children come to Christ than ANY other ministry outreach. But these churches must have the funds for the ability and resources, including Bibles, to reach every child who is sent by God.
After the isolation and hardship — and now war in Ukraine — summer camps are where the hearts of children can open to their Creator and Savior. One pastor told us that so many “spiritual breakthroughs and growth are achieved in seven days of camp” that it spurs discipleship year‐round.
Summer of Hope camp is a unique opportunity for us to bring kids out of the chaos of their lives and show them God’s love. Many are from at-risk homes, forgotten, neglected or abused. They’re coping with emotional despair that’s unimaginable and, for some of them, the terror of war, too.
Children will enjoy games, campfires, and hear the Good News of the Bible, many for the first time in their lives. They’ll also receive kid-friendly Bibles in their own language. They’ll experience real joy and the care and compassion of local Christian.
In Ukraine, children are being deeply affected by the ongoing war. Not only do they need to be cared for and surrounded with love, but children need to be able to escape for a moment the stress of dealing with such danger.
We can all play a part in helping by ensuring that these children have somewhere safe to take their minds off of things and feel safe once again, despite their circumstances.
We have to help them to not constantly think about violence but remind them that there is one source of love that can help heal all of us – Jesus Christ. As I think about these children, my heart hurts for them. It’s sad that children should live through such an experience of being caught up in a war-torn country and this has given them a very different life than what many of us can imagine.
The war in Ukraine has grave effects on children and we need to help them. Our Summer of Hope camps are a great way to help these hurting children. But most importantly is that we are to share God’s love with them as they go through this difficult time in their lives.
