The winter months are especially difficult for those in Ukraine who are caught in the middle of a war. Since February 2022, the war has been raging on, and countless Ukrainians have suffered as a result. The cold temperatures make an already bad situation much worse, with many people struggling to stay warm.
I have been in cold climates, and I know how it feels to be in cold weather. I can only imagine the struggle of the Ukrainians who have had to deal with a bitterly cold winter this year, especially those living in Kramatorsk. 370 multi-story buildings have been left without electricity, water, and heating due to the rocket attacks in Kramatorsk. The night frosts have been ranging from -9 to -12C (15 – 10 F).
The effects of the cold weather on the people of Kramatorsk and other places in Ukraine are heartbreaking. Many homes are without power, leaving people without access to necessities like heat and light. Children are particularly vulnerable in these cold temperatures, and many are unable to attend school due to a lack of adequate clothing and the need to help their families survive.
It’s hard to imagine what it must be like waking up in the middle of the night to sub-freezing temperatures or having to face the cold every morning for months on end. But that’s exactly what people in Ukraine are dealing with right now during this war. Seniors and children are especially vulnerable during these times, wondering how they will keep warm or if they will freeze to death.
Ukrainians in crisis are suffering intensely from a lack of heat and a place of safety to endure the harsh winter months. 40% of Ukraine’s generating capacity has been destroyed by missile and drone attacks in the war, leaving millions without power or running water.
We believe that everyone deserves access to heat, no matter their situation. That is why we want to help heat the families. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of so many people.
Our mission team is doing everything we can to provide assistance to those affected by the conflict and the cold. We hope to make a difference in the lives of as many people as possible.
We’re trying to help Ukrainian churches by turning their buildings into centers of warmth and comfort. By providing a generator, these churches can offer emergency shelter and warmth to those in need. We’re also trying to help people with potbelly stoves or organize heating points.
Matthew 5:7 says, “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.”
Thank you for your help in making this possible. Your generosity and kindness will bring warmth and comfort to those who are in need. These simple sources of heat will provide not only physical warmth to those seeking refuge but also emotional warmth, which can bring a sense of security and hope.
We are reminded of the love of God when we show compassion to our neighbors in need.
Thank you for your help in providing warmth to the people in the cold winter of Ukraine during the war.
Gratefully,
Pastor Vitali Yuchkovski
