Bread for the Body, Hope for the Soul: Standing with Ukraine in the Shadow of War

As we approach the third year of the war in Ukraine, it feels like just yesterday that the news broke. The initial shock and the wave of images flooding our screens were overwhelming. It started on February 24, 2022. The news came in waves, heavy and unrelenting. I watched. I prayed.

My thoughts kept turning to our missionaries and their families, trapped in the chaos of a war zone. The danger was everywhere. The pain was impossible to ignore. The images of destruction, the stories of displacement, and the faces of those caught in the crossfire – they all felt so real, so immediate. We saw fear in the eyes of children, despair on the faces of mothers, and weariness in the elderly. The war is a weight on our hearts.

But amid the devastation and fear, God’s love continues to shine through. We have witnessed incredible acts of courage, compassion, and resilience. Despite the challenges they face, our mission teams are sharing the Gospel with those in need, comforting the hurting, and rebuilding communities.

We have distributed food and supplies to refugees, provided medical care, and offered spiritual guidance. We believe that God is at work in Ukraine—healing broken hearts, restoring shattered lives, bringing comfort to the grieving, and giving hope for a better future.

Despite the immense challenges, we remain committed to sharing Christ’s love with the Ukrainian people and standing with them as they face the daunting task of rebuilding their lives. One of our most impactful ministries is the Daily Bread Ministry. This simple yet powerful act of providing freshly baked bread from our bakery brings much more than nourishment; it’s about feeding their souls. It’s about sharing a little bit of that love and kindness that He gives us so freely.

This simple act opens doors to spiritual conversations and allows us to share the Gospel with the people. Last month, an elderly woman received a loaf of bread with heartfelt gratitude. As she accepted it, tears welled up in her eyes. “Thank you for bringing us this bread,” she said. “It helps me to see Jesus.” These words remind us of the depth of our mission.

We offer not only bread but also a tangible representation of God’s love—a source of comfort and a reminder of Christ’s presence in their lives: “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty” (John 6:35).

We often take simple things in life for granted, like a hot meal. But for those struggling, even a small act of kindness can make a difference. The need for our ministry is growing. The elderly in Ukraine, especially those who are disabled, are facing increasing hardships. Your support helps us provide vital supplies, humanitarian help, and emotional support to those in desperate need.

While we cannot erase the pain of war, we can offer God’s hope and support. The road ahead is long and difficult, but we are not deterred.

We remain steadfast in our mission to bring God’s love and hope to the Ukrainian people, and we are incredibly grateful for your continued partnership in reaching so many broken souls with the message of God’s Love.

Gratefully,

Pastor Vitali Yuchkovski
